ORIGIN of EILEEN FOUNDATION
In a meeting held in 2012, Pastor Sean Cheng and others met with Mr. Zhang Xiao-xian (deceased), a senior Chinese antique collector in Los Angeles who was originally from Shanghai, to discuss the “dynamic” between Chinese traditional culture and the Christianity. An idea of establishing a Christian cultural institution was gradually germinated. We expected it can fulfill a “two-folds” of missions in “proclaiming the Gospel and preserving the essence of our cultural heritage”. Being long-time Chinese antique collectors, we specifically decided to work on fields of the “Shroud Evangelism” and the “Chinese antique porcelain art preservation.” Inspired by the command of Jesus “to love God and your neighbor”, the organization was named as “Eileen” – as it is homophonic in the Chinese as” Loving your Neighbor”.
WORDS FROM FOUNDER
Eileen Foundation believes a “visualized” Biblical experience is vital for Christian followers and other readers alike. We understand many peoples are like to explore the “credibility” of the Passion of Jesus. So, our first calling is to make the “hidden message” of the Shroud to become “visible” to every one of them. We have created activities such as book-reading club, lecture, seminar, or panel discussion etc. for the public involvement. We are also like to invite Christians to join us as volunteers, teachers, or partners. So, if you feel you are interested in our program, you are very welcome to contact Pastor Cheng at “Sshy207@gmail.com to discuss how we can work together to achieve this goal.
Secondary, we have been actively engaged people through a special cultural program of Chinse ancient porcelain art appreciation. We found it unique and funnable. The philosophy beneath this program is that we believe God manifests himself to the human kind a part of His nature through creating the beauty of the world and through the aesthetic expression. As for a Chinese, the “art of fire and clay”, is often time closely associated with their historical and spiritual value, and our elaborately selection of ancient Chinese porcelain gifts would broadly trigger a more pivotal communication to those non- Christian Chinese. VISION & EXPECTATIONS
Eileen Foundation has been registered with the Federal and State government as a Non-profit Christian
organization in 2015. Our vison is to create a long-lasting, self-sustainable, and faith-based Chinese
Christian cultural organization to “glorified God and benefit the people”. Therefore, our endeavor has
been created with “two wings”: one is to proclaim the significance of the Shroud research findings
among the Chinese people; and the other one is to foster a cultural effort to preserve the traditional
Chinese folk art, namely, the Chinese ancient porcelains. We hope a dialogue channel can be jointed
between the Christian faith and the Chinese culture.
